Cedar Wood Smuggling Foiled in Neelum Valley: FIR Registered Against Political Figure and Son

In a major breakthrough against illegal deforestation and timber smuggling, police in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Neelum District have intercepted a consignment of precious deodar (cedar) wood being smuggled under the cover of night.

According to police sources, the smugglers were transporting cedar logs in a jeep from Katha Peeran to Athmuqam. Acting on intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle, seized the illegal wood, and arrested the driver on the spot.

Initial investigation revealed that the consignment belonged to Sardar Liaqat, a sitting District Councillor, and his son Abdullah Madni. The driver failed to produce any legal permit or transportation documentation related to the timber.

A case has been registered against the vehicle, the driver, and the alleged owners under Sections 06 FR and 14 EHA of the Forest Regulations Act. Police also obtained a four-day physical remand of Abdullah Madni for further investigation.

Sources say this operation is part of a wider crackdown against illegal logging and the unlawful trade of natural resources in the region. Authorities are expected to expand the scope of the investigation and conduct more raids in the coming days.

Neelum TV will continue to follow this developing story and bring you the latest updates as they unfold.
