A thief was publicly humiliated in Jammu on Tuesday after being caught red-handed outside a prominent hospital. Local youths made him wear a garland made of shoes and paraded him through the streets. For a brief period, he was also made to sit on the bonnet of a police vehicle as officers announced his arrest through a public address system.

According to SHO Azad Manhas of Bakshi Nagar Police Station, the arrested individual is a notorious criminal and a member of a recently busted gang. He is a resident of Kashmir and was reportedly under the influence of drugs at the time of arrest.

Detailing the incident, the SHO said that two days ago, a man was robbed of ₹40,000 while buying medicines for his patient. On Tuesday, the victim recognized the thief outside the hospital and attempted to stop him. The thief attacked the man with a knife, injuring his hand, and tried to flee the scene.

However, a police patrol nearby, along with local youth, chased and apprehended the suspect after a long pursuit. Some locals placed a garland of footwear around the thief’s neck, and police paraded him publicly on the bonnet of their vehicle, making announcements of his capture.

This is the second such incident in Jammu this month. Earlier, on June 11, three criminals involved in a firing incident at Gangyal Chowk were similarly apprehended by the public and handed over to police after being beaten.
